Evangelina Alejandra Montalvo Rivero

Abstract

This research involves an approach to the phenomenon of population aging and the new social and environmental challenges for an aging society from the perspective of environmental gerontology, a branch of gerontology that is responsible for the study of relationships between the elderly and the geographical space, within the social and spatial context. The relationship between the aging in the place and the most representative housing in Mexico, the self-built housing is addressed. For this, the Historic Center of Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico, has been taken as a case study, a geographical space that presents a marked demographic aging and allows an approach to this kind of housing.
