Vocabulary Booster: Dynamics of ChatGPT Utilization in Lexical Development among State University Students

Abstract


This study investigates the dynamics of ChatGPT utilization in lexical development among state university students. Employing a mixed-method exploratory sequential design, it explores how students engage with ChatGPT to enhance vocabulary acquisition, comprehension, and application. Results reveal that ChatGPT serves as a valuable supplementary tool for vocabulary learning, offering real-time feedback, contextual examples, and personalized support. However, challenges such as dependency, occasional inaccuracies, and limited engagement with complex vocabulary were identified. Despite these limitations, ChatGPT outperforms traditional tools in accessibility and interactivity, making it a promising resource for augmenting language learning. The study underscores the importance of balancing AI-assisted and traditional instructional methods to ensure comprehensive language development. Recommendations include fostering critical thinking, encouraging responsible use of AI tools, and further integrating ChatGPT into educational frameworks to enhance digital literacy and academic outcomes.
