Abstract

Postpartum hemorrhage is the main source of maternal morbidity and mortality around the world, and rate in the United States, in spite of the fact that lower than in some resource limited countries, stays high. Women of color are at risk of develop a life-threatening postpartum hemorrhage. Risk assessment tools are available but since they need specificity and sensitivity, all pregnant women are considered at risk. Early identification and intervention in a hemorrhage require an interdisciplinary team to care and can save the lives of thousands of women every year. Over the past two decades, the role of pelvic blood vessel embolization has developed from a novel treatment option to assuming a critical part in the management of obstetric hemorrhage. Interventional radiology offers a minimal invasive, fertility- preserving option in conventional surgical treatment.

Keywords

Postpartum hemorrhage is the leading cause of maternal mortality morbidity especially in low-income countries, Women of color are at higher risk for postpartum hemorrhage than white women, because risk assessment tools only identify 85% of women with post
