Abstract

Nigeria is currently grappling with an escalating energy crisis, worsened by rapid population growth and urbanization. Addressing this challenge necessitates the adoption of innovative technologies to achieve sustainable energy solutions. This paper investigates the transformative potential of 5G technology in Nigeria’s energy sector. With its capabilities for high-speed connectivity, low latency, and support for massive machine-type communications, 5G offers opportunities to enhance renewable energy integration, optimize energy distribution systems, and advance smart grid applications. The study critically examines the challenges and prospects of utilizing 5G technology within the context of Nigeria’s energy sector, highlighting its alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The paper concludes with recommendations for policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders aimed at fostering 5G-driven energy sustainability.
