Abstract

This study analyzes the causes of fluctuation in imports and volatility in horse mackerel fish prices during a period of constant customs duty rates in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was a question of verifying why there is the scarcity and the variation in price of horse mackerel on the Congolese market as long as the customs duty remains constant. Using the simple linear regression model, we arrived at the result that, all other things being equal, the increase in horse mackerel imports into the Democratic Republic of Congo during the period under study is an increasing function of incentive costs, international supply and national demand for horse mackerel but decreasing in factory price; That is, each increase of 1% in the international supply of the product, implies an increase in importation of 4.893854 tons; a 1% increase in national demand for horse mackerel makes a positive move on the import of this same product of the order of 0.99999 tonnes and a 1% increase in the price of a tonne of horse mackerel at the factory, makes reduce its imports by around 5.429035 tonnes.
