Abstract

Monnioziosis has been identified as a deadly cestodosis in goats, with symptoms that are frequently acute and lethal. New species of Moniezia have been identified that differ from the previously known and widespread causative agents of Moniezia expansa, M.benedeni, in the robust structure of the strobilus, the larger size of the scolex and correspondingly the suckers, the shape of the segments, the accelerated growth in both transverse and longitudinal directions, the more rapid onset of sexual maturity, and a much shorter body.
