Abstract

Biodegradable plastic-based starch is become one of alternative to substitute the synthetic plastic. In this study, the biodegradable plastic was made by tapioca starch and cellulose fiber from sugarcane bagasse. The production of bioplastic was casting method. Moisture resistance was observed by moisture absorption testing. The result shows that 4% sugarcane bagasse cellulose fiber (SBC) filled tapioca starch has good moisture resistance. It was indicated by lower moisture absorption for 28.3% at 22.5 hours condition. This result was supported by FTIR analysis which indicates a shift in the OH functional groups wavenumber in around 3500-3000 cm-1. This shift resulting in the new formation of hydrogen bonding.
